Why We Do This

Why We Do It - Danielle and Chris

This year’s event was a very special event. The event honored Chris Foat whose life was tragically cut short in December 2007. Chris was only 23 yrs. old with a full life ahead of him. He left behind a wonderful fiancé’ Shannon Friedel who is expecting his baby and his wonderful family; his mom Sally, his Dad Dave, his brothers Joe and Nick. Chris was very popular and well liked by everyone. The world is a better place to have had him here.

Chris was also very loyal – he was going to throw a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party for his parents on the day of the tournament in 2007 and when he had learned it was the same day as the tournament he said, “ I have to re-schedule the anniversary party”. Danielle’s tournament and supporting our family meant a lot to him and it meant a lot to us knowing that he cared and wanted to show his support, but that is just how Chris was. He would help anyone who needed him. He now has a lot of people here who love him and will never forget the wonderful things he has done for others. I am proud to have known Chris and I know that I will see him and Danielle again.

I thank everyone for coming each year to honor Danielle who is missed greatly by us all by keeping her memory alive. She was so multi faceted and she had so much to accomplish. Her smile was infectious, her silliness was hysterical and unique and when Danielle was mad….well she was mad… she was just such a strong person that I know she surrounds us each time we think of her and her memory lives on in each of us. I know we will all keep Danielle and Chris in our hearts, as they may be gone for now but never forgotten.

Although this is a sad and tragic story for both Danielle and Chris I am very proud and honored to have the distinct pleasure of being Danielle’s mom and to have been a very close friend of Chris.
I believe everyone who comes to the tourney is there out of love and support and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

On a brighter side, the event is a lot of fun and it is a place to keep friendships alive and to make new friends!

If you come to play in the tourney and you do not know anybody, I can assure you that by the end of the day, you will feel like part of the family!

We welcome everyone and the level of play is very good if you like competition and if you just want to play for fun we have that too!
