About Dani...

Dani was very social, out-going, determined, beautiful, strong willed and gifted in many ways. When Dani set her mind on obtaining a goal she would accomplish that goal. She was about 12 when she decided she wanted to play Division 1 volleyball. She was small by volleyball player’s standards standing 5’6” but she had court vision, determination, skill and speed. She loved playing defense, and being able to dig the hardest hits an opponent could give that was like winning the lotto for her. At home she would practice constantly. I knew she had the ability and she would achieve her goal. She played club ball and played for SkyHigh for several years. When news came out from the USVBA about a new position called the “Libero” she knew that is what she wanted to train for.

Dani and I looked for colleges she could play at she wanted nothing less than a Division 1 school and it had to be in North Carolina. We instantly connected with University of North Carolina in Charlotte. After meeting the coach we both knew that is where she would go if they would have her. She entered as a walk-on her freshman year but that was fine with her, she knew she would prove herself in time and she did. She was known for wearing pre-wrap in her hair and rainbow armbands (she loved rainbows); she always stood out on the court. She became the starting “libero” her sophomore year at UNCC and received a partial scholarship.

Dani was killed in a car accident while on spring break with her teammates in Florida on March 12, 2004 – what she never got to know is that she was getting a full ride – she accomplished her goal.
